Phase 1 Consultation

Consultation for this project has now concluded.

Central Coast Council, with the support of the NSW Government’s Floodplain Management Program, is undertaking a Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan (FRMSP) for the Woy Woy peninsula including Kahibah Creek catchment. This FRMSP will look at ways to manage the flooding problems identified in the previous flood studies while taking into consideration management options identified in the Brisbane Water Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan and the Kahibah Creek Floodplain Management Study.

Community Consultation

Council called for input from the community to identify ways to manage the flooding problems identified in the Woy Woy catchment, as well as gain a better understanding of how and where past flood events have impacted the community from Monday 8 February until Monday 12 March.

Those who live, work or visit Woy Woy Peninsula were invited to:

  • answer a questionnaire that was prepared by the flood consultant. This questionnaire was designed to provide Council with information on flooding problems the community are aware of and suggestions on how they would like to see these problems addressed. A hard-copy of this questionnaire was also delivered to residences that are most affected by flooding in this study area.
  • attend a community drop in session on Thursday 18 February to speak with staff before answering the questionnaire. Posters presented at this session can be viewed within the document library adjacent.

More information can be found by:

  • reviewing previous flood study reports and figures for this area in the document library on the right of this page.
  • reading our frequently asked questions on our main floodplain management page

A community consultation report will be made available soon.

Background information

Council has previously prepared the Woy Woy Peninsula Flood Study which provided Council with a better understanding of the importance of the interaction of coastal inundation, groundwater conditions and the increasing effects of development on flood behaviour due to changing hydraulics of the existing terrain surface in the Woy Woy peninsula.

The flood modelling has now been updated as part of the current FRMSP and the updated flood model results will be informing the identification and assessment of options.

The Woy Woy Peninsula FRMSP is being prepared by consultants DHI Group and Rhelm Pty Ltd.
