Council are developing a new Disability Inclusion Action Plan for the Central Coast.
The purpose of the Disability Inclusion Action Plan is to outline the actions Council will take to remove barriers and improve access for people with disability so they can participate in all areas of community life. This plan will start in July 2021, when our current plan ends.
From 7 August to 30 September 2020, Council talked with the community to find out what the priorities should be and what Council can do to make life easier for people with disabilities on the Central Coast.
There were two surveys available online, one for community members and one for people working in the disability sector. Hard copies were made available at local libraries or by calling or emailing Council. These surveys are now closed.
We also invited people who live with a disability and their family members or carers to join one of our three online forums that were held during September.
Thank you to everyone who gave their time and shared their views.

Frequently asked questions
Why does Council need a new Disability Inclusion Action Plan?
Public authorities, including Councils, are required to have a Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) under the Disability Inclusion Act 2014. Central Coast Council’s current Disability Inclusion Action Plan ends in June 2021, so we need to have a new plan ready to start in July 2021.
The DIAP sets out what Council will do to remove barriers and improve access for people with disability so they can participate in all areas of community life
How can I get involved?
You can fill in an online or hard copy survey, or attend an online forum. If you would like to provide a submission in an alternative format, please contact Celia to discuss what would work for you on (02) 4350 5340 or email email@example.com
How will the action plan be developed?
The action plan will be informed by listening to people with disabilities, their families and carers and the disability sector on the Central Coast. Their input will be gathered through our surveys and forums. Council’s Access and Inclusion Reference Group are also providing guidance during the development of this plan. We will research ‘best practice’ in disability inclusion in Australia and internationally. The findings from our community consultation and research will be used to develop an action plan for Central Coast Council.
The NSW Government is reviewing the Disability Inclusion Act 2014. What does this mean for the new DIAP?
The NSW Government is recommending that Councils move ahead with their DIAP consultations while the Act is being reviewed. As Central Coast Council needs to have a new DIAP in place by July 2021, we are moving ahead with our community consultation. If the Disability Inclusion Act 2014 is changed, Council will make any changes that are required.
