The design and construction of the new skate parks are funded by Council. We continue to invest in purpose built, safe and engaging skate parks and recreation areas because of the many community benefits these facilities provide (including the promotion of healthy active lifestyles and connection with others in the community) and to meet the growing popularity of skateboarding and scootering across widening age groups, genders and abilities. These projects are planned in alignment with our Community Strategic Plan to help our community enjoy life on the Coast by supporting healthy and balanced lifestyles through well‑maintained facilities, spaces and services, while creating opportunities for people to connect, engage and participate in their community.

During phase 1, the community can influence most elements of the design including materials used, style of skate park and supporting facilities.

Construction is planned to take place in the 2026-27 financial year, starting with the demolition of the existing skate facilities.

Council invests in purpose built, safe and engaging skate parks and recreation areas because of the many community benefits they provide, in particular the promotion of active and healthy lifestyles, and to meet the growing popularity of skateboarding and scootering across widening age groups, genders and abilities.

This skate park aligns to the objectives of Council’s Central Coast Skate Park Action Plan (2020) to ensure quality multi-purpose and inclusive skateparks across the region that contribute to active lifestyles, support social engagement that are appropriately sited and sustainably managed.

Skate facilities:

• provide safe purpose-built environment for skateboarding which helps to avoid injury from collisions with pedestrians or motor vehicles.
• can reduce damage to private property and other community areas which.
• can become an informal skate park if there aren’t designated areas.
• numerous physical and mental health benefits to skateboarders that come with being active, which can also reduce risky and anti-social behaviours in youth.
• activate outdoor spaces with surrounding recreational areas
• provide opportunity for intergenerational co-operation, tolerance, social interaction and co-existence. This assists with counteracting age stereotypes, developing emotional and social skills and supporting social integration.
• improve visitor recreational offerings on the Central Coast.

Skate parks do not inherently attract anti‑social behaviour; when thoughtfully designed and located, they function as positive community spaces that support youth engagement, social connection and active lifestyles, with little evidence of increased crime.

Skate parks work best when they are:

• Located in visible, active areas near other community facilities with passive surveillance
• Well-designed for all skill levels and developed with youth input
• Regularly used and well maintained, which naturally discourages misuse
