Help us protect Swift Parrot habitat

Fewer than 1,000 swift parrots may be left in the wild making every sighting extra special.

We’ve prepared a draft Swift Parrot Species Management Plan to help protect this endangered bird on the Central Coast, while still supporting sustainable growth across our region.

The Swift Parrot depends on healthy habitat to survive during its migration to the eastern Australia mainland during autumn and winter. This draft Species Management Plan (SMP) covers all areas of potential and known Swift Parrot habitat on the Central Coast, including on private and public land. There are three aims under this SMP, with objectives on how each aim is to be achieved.

By completing the survey, your feedback will help us to resource the appropriate actions to protect the Swift Parrot species during their migration to the Central Coast.

Aim of the Species Management Plan

  • Aim 1: Protect and improve Swift Parrot habitat

    • Identify and map where Swift Parrot habitat exists and make sure this information is considered when planning future land use and development.
    • Protect, improve and restore habitat for Swift Parrots in suitable Council reserves and on other land through conservation agreements and funding opportunities.
    • Ensure habitat that remains after development is managed so it continues to support Swift Parrots.
