Thank you for your feedback

The popular playspace at the Peninsula Recreation Precinct in Umina is ready for a refresh and we heard from you!

You told us how you want to jump, climb, swing and slide in the renewed space. Whether you’re a local, a visitor, young or young-at-heart, your ideas are helping us create a vibrant, inclusive and fun playspace for everyone.

What's happening?

  • We’re renewing the Umina playspace to better reflect what our community wants and needs.
  • This well-loved space is a hub for play, fitness and social connection and we want to make it even better.
  • Playspaces are more than just equipment, they’re multigenerational spaces that support active lifestyles and community wellbeing.

We will use your feedback to develop concept designs and bring them back to you for review.

Construction of the new playspace is planned for 2027.

2026: Community Update

Engagement outcomes

Thank you to everyone who shared feedback on the proposed refresh of the Umina Regional Playspace at Peninsula Recreation Precinct.

Between 10 November and 21 December 2025, the community provided feedback through the interactive map, an on‑site pop‑up session and written submissions. More than 400 contributions were received, helping Council better understand how the playspace is used and what matters most to the community.

What we heard

Overall, there was strong support for renewing the playspace, along with clear themes across the feedback, including:

  • The importance of improved maintenance, cleanliness and safety
  • A desire for more swings, greater capacity and a wider variety of play equipment
  • Strong support for accessible and inclusive play for children of all abilities
  • The popularity of the flying fox and support for upgrades in this area
  • Requests for shade, seating and picnic areas
  • Interest in water play, alongside concerns about feasibility and upkeep

Some participants also raised concerns about cost, vandalism and the potential loss of flexible open space or existing features.

For further detail, see the Engagement Summary document under the 'Documents' tab.

Council's response

Council has carefully reviewed all feedback received. As part of the next design phase, Council will:

  • Consider ongoing maintenance and long‑term upkeep as part of the final design
  • Look to increase the number and variety of swings, including inclusive options where feasible
  • Improve accessibility and inclusion, with clear paths of travel and co‑play opportunities
  • Refresh ageing equipment while improving safety and visibility

While water play was popular, it will not be included in this upgrade due to its complexity, compliance requirements and ongoing maintenance demands, as well as the playspace’s location directly opposite the beach. Instead, investment will focus on improving the quality, variety and inclusivity of play equipment and supporting infrastructure.

What's next?

Council is now progressing the concept design for the upgraded playspace, informed by community feedback. Once designs are finalised, they will be shared on on this page, and participants will be notified.
