We are now finalising the Flood Study review

We are reviewing and updating the 2009 Porters Creek Flood Study to better understand flood risks in the Warnervale catchment.

This updated study will include both mainstream and overland flooding, reflecting the significant development that has occurred in the area over the past decade.

The study will help inform future floodplain risk management strategies and ensure the safety and resilience of our growing community.

Thank you to those who contributed to the Porters Creek Flood Study Review.

What we heard

    93 survey responses.

    83% of respondents were from the 2259 postcode.

    57% have lived or visited the area for over 21 years.

  • Experiences of flooding

    Only 43% of respondents were aware of flooding in the area.

    67% of respondents have not experienced flooding.


  • Community behaviour during a flood scenario

    Most respondents would await instruction from the SES and Council.

    Mobile applications are the most common source for flood information and updates.

    Respondents would most commonly seek information about road closures, evacuation notices and predicted flood levels.

Next steps

Further technical assessments are being made, where specialists are developing and testing a new catchment model using rainfall, drainage and historical flood level information.

A draft Flood Study and updated flood maps will then be prepared and shared with the community for final feedback. This is anticipated to occur early 2027. The study and mapping will then be finalised and presented to Council for adoption.

How can I be involved?

Study Overview

The Review of Porters Creek Catchment Flood Study is being prepared to estimate flood behaviour in Porters Creek. The study area is approximately bounded by Mandalong Road and Sparks Road to the north, the Wyong River and Johns Road to the south, the Pacific Highway to the east, and Dicksons Road to the west. It also includes tributaries such as Woongarrah Creek and Buttonderry Creek. A map of the study area is available on Council’s website using the link at the end of this letter.

Community Participation

Local knowledge is essential to ensure the study reflects real experiences and expectations. We invite you to share your insights on flooding in the Porters Creek catchment by completing our online survey.
